We are a partner organization with the African American Performing Arts Center operating under the umbrella of their 501(c)3 Status. Donations are tax deductible.

Our Mission

The Youth Jazz Collaborative provides instruction in small-group jazz improvisation technique to music students in the Greater Albuquerque area aged 12-18, free of chargE.

IT ALSO PROVIDES AFTER SCHOOL BEGINNING BAND MUSIC INSTRUCTION TO ELEMENTARY AGE STUDENTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT OF ALBUQUERQUE.

Jazz improvisation is more than simply "playing what you feel." To be able to spontaneously create excellent melodies and harmonies on standard repertoire in the jazz idiom, one needs a foundation of knowledge in music theory and many hours of listening and practice.  We provide that foundation of knowledge, and create regular performance opportunities for young musicians to practice their jazz skills in front of a live audience.
